this is written by a pakistani journalist.. ........
Twenty-five thousand years ago, haplogroup R2 characterized by genetic marker M124 arose in southern Central Asia. Then began a major wave of human migration whereby members migrated southward to present-day India and Pakistan. Indians and Pakistanis have the same ancestry and share the same DNA sequence.
Here's what is happening in India:
The two Ambani brothers can buy 100 percent of every company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) and would still be left with $30 billion to spare. The four richest Indians can buy up all goods and services produced over a year by 169 million Pakistanis and still be left with $60 billion to spare. The four richest Indians are now richer than the forty richest Chinese.
In November, Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark Sensex flirted with 20,000 points. As a consequence, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries became a $100 billion company (the entire KSE is capitalized at $65 billion). Mukesh owns 48 percent of Reliance.
In November, comes Neeta's birthday. Neeta turned forty-four three weeks ago. Look what she got from her husband as her birthday present: A sixty-million dollar jet with a custom fitted master bedroom, bathroom with mood lighting, a sky bar, entertainment cabins, satellite television, wireless communication and a separate cabin with game consoles. Neeta is Mukesh Ambani's wife, and Mukesh is not India's richest but the second richest.
Mukesh is now building his new home, Residence Antillia (after a mythical, phantom island somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean). At a cost of $1 billion this would be the most expensive home on the face of the planet. At 173 meters tall Mukesh's new family residence, for a family of six, will be the equivalent of a 60-storeyed building. The first six floors are reserved for parking. The seventh floor is for car servicing and maintenance. The eighth floor houses a mini-theatre. Then there's a health club, a gym and a swimming pool. Two floors are reserved for Ambani family's guests. Four floors above the guest floors are family floors all with a superb view of the Arabian Sea. On top of everything are three helipads. A staff of 600 is expected to care for the family and their family home.
In 2004, India became the 3rd most attractive foreign direct investment destination. Pakistan wasn't even in the top 25 countries. In 2004, the United Nations, the representative body of 192 sovereign member states, had requested the Election Commission of India to assist the UN in the holding elections in Al Jumhuriyah al Iraqiyah and Dowlat-e Eslami-ye Afghanestan. Why the Election Commission of India and not the Election Commission of Pakistan? After all, Islamabad is closer to Kabul than is Delhi.
Imagine, 12 percent of all American scientists are of Indian origin; 38 percent of doctors in America are Indian; 36 percent of NASA scientists are Indians; 34 percent of Microsoft employees are Indians; and 28 percent of IBM employees are Indians.
For the record: Sabeer Bhatia created and founded Hotmail. Sun Microsystems was founded by Vinod Khosla. The Intel Pentium processor, that runs 90 percent of all computers, was fathered by Vinod Dham. Rajiv Gupta co-invented Hewlett Packard's E-speak project. Four out of ten Silicon Valley start-ups are run by Indians. Bollywood produces 800 movies per year and six Indian ladies have won Miss Universe/Miss World titles over the past 10 years.
For the record: Azim Premji, the richest Muslim entrepreneur on the face of the planet, was born in Bombay and now lives in Bangalore.India now has more than three dozen billionaires; Pakistan has none (not a single dollar billionaire) .
The other amazing aspect is the rapid pace at which India is creating wealth. In 2002, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh and Anil Ambani's father, left his two sons a fortune worth $2.8 billion. In 2007, their combined wealth stood at $94 billion. On 29 October 2007, as a result of the stock market rally and the appreciation of the Indian rupee, Mukesh became the richest person in the world, with net worth climbing to US$63.2 billion (Bill Gates, the richest American, stands at around $56 billion). Indians and Pakistanis have the same Y-chromosome haplogroup. We have the same genetic sequence and the same genetic marker (namely: M124). We have the same DNA molecule, the same DNA sequence. Our culture, our traditions and our cuisine are all the same. We watch the same movies and sing the same songs. What is it that Indians have and we don't?

Hmmm interesting
India is fast becoming a powerhouse when it comes to Wealth, yes. But I really really hope those top rich Indian men will share their wealth with the poor ppl in the country? I mean the wealth is only growing for very few ppl..the poor remain poor. And thats not a good thing. Wealth should be distributed.
**Look what she got from her husband as her birthday present: A sixty-million dollar jet
Thats really too much! seriously cant they do some charity for that? wut is she going to do with that kinda jet?
Abt Pakistan..I really hope they find Peace. Just like how I wish for Sri Lanka. There is a 20+ year war going on there and it doesnt seem to be stopping. So sad!
Leaders we choose seem to be doing nothing much abt the less priviledged ppl in the country.
Keshi.
hmm, thinking about it... we can make a HUGE difference in our lives and the lives of people around us by doig very small things!
hopefully, the future of indian politicians will see atleast a few 'good', noncorrupt and a bit educated people :D

i feel so sorry for the people of the country..they need a revolution not Chinese nuclear weapons or american jets/missiles.
you deserve a pat on the back,to put this here.keep going baby.
nice one...I have read this one somewhere before...certainly brings out the differences b/w the 2 economies...but then miliatary rule has damaged Pakistan much more than what can be imagined and corrected...while democracy has kinda helped us in growing but yeah too much tilting towards capitalist economy has its flip sides as well.
mera bharat mahan :D
In india outgoing leader hugs and hands over the reins to his successor.. in pak.. they shoot ...
Hmmm... don't want to spoil the fun but...some rationalization is in order ..
- The Human Development Index of India is lower than most African countries. (which means there are more people hungry, living without drinking water, and kids dying prematurely in this country)
- Large scale mob killings (1984, 2002) are a unique feature of this great nation where its citizens come out in groups wipe out a few thousand of its own citizens, and go back to their 'normal' civilized lives. And the icing on the cake is - govt, bureaucracy, legal system - all are ok with it. (Imagine less than 10 people indicted in killing of 4000+ indian citizens in just 2 days in New Delhi in the winter of 1984. It requires lakhs of people to murder 4000+ people in 2 days).
- Worlds larget organized thug network is not some mafia of italy or some thieves in some remote unknown country. But its the police, right here! Sure we don't believe it....coz we close our eyes:).
- And where in the world are there so many pending court cases that it would take 300 years (10 generations!) to just clear these 'existing' cases...
Mera Bharat Mahaan...

many comments actually
1. yes...india is becoming an economic powerhouse
2. why are we comparing india with pakistan...of all countries...
is it to feel good...if that is the case...let us also feel bad by comparing ourselves with the south east asian giants who started their modernization at more or less the same time as us
3. there are indian docs n managers all over the world. this is thanks to the importance given to higher education early on after independence...n the huge importance to education our society gives....
but we have the highest illiterate population in the world...over 300 million...this again is thanks to the same policy of importance to higher education n neglect of primary education
4. we talk of entrepreneurs n businessmen creating wealth...that is definitely important...but we are the POOREST country in the world...one can argue on this based on per capita income etc...but the fact remains...the avg spending per rural household in 2007 is less than 40 rs a day...the max number of anaemic mothers are there in india...more than that in sub saharan africa....an avg of 1 woman dies every 6 minutes during delivery of her child in india...
true...we are possibly better off than pakistan on these statistics...but...we as ourselves...where are we?
some things to ponder about
@anurag
2)we arent d ones comparing india n pak...its a pakistani journo doin that...plus he jus wants to say y aftr being so similar thr is sucha huge diffrnce btw d way d two countries hav shaped up!
3)very true...n had childrn been a votebank m sure our politicians wud hav dne smthn bou dat as well!
4)we sure hav a long way to go!
thanks fo sharin ur views!:)

but one thing i wud lik to add..
the ppl in Pakistan are the most sophisiticated ones u ll find..very hospitable..

interesting article dint know the 4 rich ppl were so rich n our country still very poor..!!! the journo there left tht..
hey Gunj tnxx hun!
yes...ur right. And the GOVTs in countries like SL and Pak dun let that happen...that's what's disappointing.
Keshi.
hey nice post..lol...
And I hope this wealth doesn't just make the rich richer but gets used to build the poorer economy that's fast getting forgotten in the e-world. By the ways, so u r a pakistani ? Nice to know that Gunj !
@irresistible desires
dat is so true

@kp
lol...thr was a time wen i left blogging coz i thot nobdy read it!:)
this was very nice reading...those are very true facts & I hope our neighbours do something to come out of the mess that is their now!
@kalyan
i hope the same too!
the article is extremely well written...
and the facts are accurate..but i don't think we should be happy with their standards of comparison..
we living in india are acutely aware of the economic divide and the developmental statistics..
if articles like this one make a difference to social consciousness, then we must strike a comparison between ourselves and other southeast asian countries on the rate and spectrum of development and progress..
thanks for sharing it though..
cheers!
Here's hoping for better Indian leaders..hoping for better conditions in Pakistan..hoping for WORLD PEACE:D
The last line was AWESOME girl!! Power-packed punch as they say..
hope something happens for the good (in pakistan) before it's too late.

sure i will....lets c if it works!!
The grass always seems greener on the other side, doesn't it?
Pakistan compares itself with India... India compares itself with China... China compares itself with America.
I think it is unfair to compare two countries. India as a republic always based its decisions on secularity and democracy, whereas Pakistan's creation itself was based on something as controversial and unstable as religion. How then can we expect the countries to perform similarly?
Sure, democracy is a major reason, but what about China? How is it that they are flourishing?
India's progress is superficial, I feel. Only when I see the poor, hungry farmers rejoicing in waves of another Green Revolution can I be satisfied about development. Only when agricultural infrastructure is strengthened, and when the common farmer has a share in the international market can our country be powerful enough to be called developed.
The weapons you speak about lie rusted all around India.
@alok
waow....thanks fo sharin ur views n giving us another perspective!! :)
i do not know whether to praise the very democratic setup and the wealth of Ambani's and bow down to our stock exchange
or whether to talk about the paradoxes of poverty, education,infrastructure,rural backwardness , agriculture and bla bla bla . the list goes on and these grip the country right now .
i loved it when Alok said
"The grass always seems greener on the other side, doesn't it?
Pakistan compares itself with India... India compares itself with China... China compares itself with America."
but unless we compare , things will not take its course like its happening now . we are changing for good .
but hey ! loved all of the post . felt proud and awe was in the air .
@ataullah
thanku fo thoe wonderful words pal
im glad all of us here proud of our country n at d same time knw wat else needs to b dne!! :)
@ataullah
Thank you for your understanding of what I wanted to say.
Yes, comparison serves that purpose. But isn't it unfair to compare?
I mean, if you want to compare India's "progress" with that of Pakistan, do it, by all means. But by comparing, we're basically assuming that both countries were at an equal level before the said growth, which is obviously not true.
The article goes on comparing, and mentions only one cause: democracy. Now, China being communist has a better economic growth rate than us. So, Democracy isn't the only one cause for growth. The article fails to mention other points. It's blaming Pakistan for not being able to match up to India, while forgetting about all the intermediate steps required.
Thus, I'm against this aspect of comparison.

Hello everyone!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a thing, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.
For several years , I make money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my web site to get additional info.
